UNFPA will prevent maternal and newborn deaths in the flood zones are in the Philippines

UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, works with international and local partners to provide essential reproductive health supplies to meet the needs of more than 12,000 pregnant and lactating women in different evacuation centers, areas affected by tropical storm wash in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan cities in the Philippines.


As part of the United Nations humanitarian appeal, UNFPA seeks about $ 1.4 million to help residents. According to government estimates, the Philippines, more than 92,000 families or 640,000 people, mostly affected by the disaster.

UNFPA has mobilized youth volunteers to organize young people in evacuation centers to help raise awareness about available medical services and to monitor incidents of gender based violence. These young people are gathering important data about pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding, as well as other relevant statistics such as number of young people in these centers. Through partnerships with government, UNFPA collaborates with local organizations to carry out psychological counseling and emergency referral system set up for victims of gender-based violence.
